    2026 Winter Talks Lineup Announced at Yakima Valley College
    Bees, Microplastics, and Freer Rivers
    Cowiche Canyon Conservancy is partnering with Yakima Valley College to offer free science-based talks. This year’s talks will feature research about native bees, microplastics in river systems, and how the removal of dams impacts river ecology.
    2026 Talk Schedule
    •         January 13, 2026, 6pm – “Where’s the Buzz? Mapping Native Bees Using Participatory Science,” presented by Caleb Lankford (Washington Department of Agriculture).
    •        February 24, 2026, 6pm – “From Sweatpants to Garbage Patch: What Happens to Plastic in the Yakima River?” Presented by Clay Arango (Central Washington University)
    •        March 3, 2026, 6pm – “Does the River Give a Dam? Effects of the Nelson Dam Removal on the Naches River,” presented by Lisa Ely (Central Washington University)
    All talks are free to the public and will take place at Yakima Valley College’s Kaminski Conference Center. Talks are between 40 to 60 minutes followed by time for audience questions and responses.
